PSE&G Bold New Plan to Spur Investment in Solar Energy
Under the plan, PSE&G will invest approximately $100 million to help finance the installation of solar systems on homes, businesses and municipal buildings throughout its service area. The funding will provide a source of capital to spur additional investment in solar energy.
PSE&G
would provide loans to developers to cover approximately 40-50 percent of the
cost of a solar installation project. The
utility would be repaid plus interest over
15 years, a longer investment timeframe than traditional lenders are willing
to provide for solar installations.
PSE&G
would be repaid in the form of credits called Solar Renewable Energy
Certificates or SRECs, which have value in the energy marketplace. An SREC is
a New Jersey tradable product that represents the clean energy benefits of
electricity generated from a solar system.
PSE&G would earn a return to compensate the company for its full cost of
capital, plus an incentive for spurring the development of the solar market.
The solar panels would be owned by the developer or the host customer.

Statement from UNPLUG Salem Campaign
"This is a sad day for all those folks, both 'pro' and 'anti' nuke, who believe in making nuclear power as safe as possible.
The NRC decision on Dr Harvin sends a chilling message to workers at PSEG's nuclear plants as well as workers throughout the nuclear industry.
From now on, they'll just pencil-whip the problems and save their jobs.
The NRC and the individual NRC members who wrote and endorsed this decision should be ashamed and should resign their positions immediately.
UNPLUG was not surprised by this decision.
The NRC sent strong pro-PSEG messages when they appointed Sam Collins, the NRC staffer who screwed up royally at Davis Besse, to be the new Region 1 administrator.
NRC's subsequent authorization of the re-start of the defective Hope Creek nuke was just more evidence of where NRC's loyalties lay-
with the nuke owners, not with safety whistleblowers.
UNPLUG Salem supports Dr Harvin in whatever action she now takes to find justice in the cause of nuclear power safety".

Attached please find comments by UCS in response to a notice published in the Federal Register last week about a license amendment sought by the Hope Creek licensee. As detailed in our comments, this licensee seeks to short-cut a long and established process for reducing defense-in-depth. This licensee seeks to "cherry pick" among the Improved Technical Specifications and adopt only those that can speed up its refueling outages. The established process is to convert completely to the Improved Technical Specifications as virtually all of the other licensees have done or are currently doing so. The NRC must deny this short-cut and make this licensee convert entirely to the Improved Technical Specifications if it wants the luxury of this one defense-in-depth rollback. Thanks, Dave Lochbaum Nuclear Safety Engineer Union of Concerned Scientists Comments by UCS
Dr. Nancy Kymn Harvin to receive Carl Barus Award for Outstanding Service in the Public Interest
A former nuclear worker went to the NRC nearly 18 months ago with allegations, including one that her termination was in retaliation for having conveyed safety concerns to senior management. Despite internal procedures that specify allegations to be addressed within 180 days and investigations to be completed within 18 months, the NRC has yet to announce a decision on this matter. Read Dave Lochbaun's letter to NRC. (in pdf)
