You can check the Delaware Riverkeeper Network - delawareriverkeepernetwork.org
for a bunch of fact sheets that have the history of the NJ DEP permit on
allowing Salem 1/2 to slaughter fish. As part of the 'deal' that allows
PSEG to avoid building cooling towers, PSEG had to rebuild 'degraded' marshes
and change salt hay farms to marsh.
Thompsons Beach was a small town on the Delaware Bay, and the main spot for
horseshoe crabs to lay their eggs.
PSEG built artificial channels behind the beach where the old salt hay farms
were, in an effort to change the salt hay farm to marsh. These channels
have sucked in the horseshoe crabs, who then get trapped in these channels and
die.
