APPROVES CERTIFICATION OF WESTINGHOUSE’S AP1000
ADVANCED REACTOR DESIGN (the “New” nuclear power generation)
Westinghouse
Electric Company, the pioneer and global leader in nuclear plant design
and construction, is ready with the *AP1000™ pressurized water reactor
(PWR). It is the ONLY
Generation III
reactor
to receive Design Certification from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission (NRC).
And
now

meeting today, Sept. 17
NRC
had expected the company to deliver today the new version of the AP1000
plant design, called “Revision 17.” But Westinghouse said it
isn’t ready yet and would not commit to a new deadline. .
Full certification is already years behind schedule, with most delays
occurring in 2008.
The
meeting lasted 2. hours instead of the planned six. Westinghouse
provided an oral overview of the key categories of design changes, and
referred to numerous modifications that have not been previously
discussed with NRC;
